ADT Monitored Alarm Systems
Maxi Security Alarm System installed in your home or business communicates with the ADT’s 24-hour monitoring center through ordinary telephone lines or, alternatively, through a cellular or radio connection. At the present time, the direct phone line connection is the most reliable method of communication in New Zealand.

Most existing as well as new alarm systems can be connected to the ADT Monitoring Centre. Some older systems wouldn’t have a dialler to dial through a telephone network, in which case, an upgrade of the system is necessary before it can dial through to the monitoring centre.

Components of the system include door and window sensors, motion detectors, glass breakage detectors as well as smoke & heat detectors. These components may be hard-wired to your alarm panel or wireless depending on your unique needs.

In addition to entry detection which occurs when you arm your system, you may also have “panic buttons” which may be activated irrespective of whether or not the system has been armed. An alarm incident results in an immediate seizure of the telephone line to transmit the signal to the monitoring station. There are normally 3 types of panic buttons on all alarms systems, covering, Intrusion Panic, Medical Panic and Fire Panic.

When the ADT Monitoring Centre receives an alarm signal from your system, they contact the premises, the appropriate responding authorities and your personal contacts in the order dictated by the type of signal which has been received. – (Intrusion, Panic, Medical Panic and Fire Panic). Normally alarm signals are received and a dispatch attempt is made within 30 seconds. You have the ability to cancel inadvertent alarms via your alarm keypad which will stop dispatch efforts.

Your system is monitored when the alarm is being armed or even un-armed. In addition to alarm signals, your system can be programmed to communicate automatic periodic tests, low battery state, system functionality, communication connections and entry and exit information. An entry and exit log is also being recorded, indicating opening and closing times of the premises.

When a patrol vehicle is dispatched to your premises, ADT will use the ADT Armourgaurd Patrol response to investigate the situation.

ADT Monitoring Plan

An ADT Monitoring Plan is over 3 years at a Fee from only $1 / day. (Incl GST)
Term: 3 Years
Fee: Fee: From $1 a day (Incl. GST)

ADT Armourgaurd Response Call-out Charges for your ADT Monitored Security Alarm

$51-00* – callout rate per 30 minutes and or part thereof.
Free annual admin fee
*Rates are exclusive of GST.

These charges are only applicable when a patrol vehicle has to be dispatched to your premises and not when normal monitoring procedures are followed. All attempts will be made at first to be in contact with you and your emergency contacts before a patrol response vehicle will be dispatched.

What is a cancel code?
A Cancel Code is a signal that is transmitted to the monitoring station when an alarm system is disarmed (turned off) after an intrusion alarm has occurred. Since disarming occurs as a result of the user entering a valid user code, the receipt of the Cancel Code tells the station an authorized user is on the premise. Not all alarm systems are programmed with Cancel Codes.

How does the ADT Monitoring center know an alarm has occurred?
An alarm occurs at a premise when one of the various detectors (door/window contacts, smoke detectors, panic buttons, etc) is activated while the respective zone is armed. This causes the digital dialer in the alarm panel to phone the ADT receiver and send a message containing the customers account number followed by an alarm signal. The alarm signal code tells ADT what type of alarm was generated.

How does the operator know how to respond?
Once an alarm signal is received at ADT, the receiver decodes the alarm signal and sends it to the main computer. The computer looks up the customers account number to determine what instructions must be followed to process the alarm. The alarm is then sent to an operator terminal with complete instructions on how the operator should respond.

How does ADT determine whether an alarm is real or false?
The standard procedure at ADT is to verify all alarms by calling the premise. The station will allow the phone to ring 3-4 times. If it is between 21:00 – 06:00 and the phone is not answered, the authorities will be dispatched immediately. If the alarm is an intrusion alarm between the hours of 06:00 – 21:00 the operators will call the premise and the first person on the call list before dispatching.

Why is a Password (Site Voice Code) so important?
Passwords are required whenever you are communicating with the Counterforce monitoring station. Since it is easy for a thief to find out the name of an occupant or employee of a premise, a secret password is required to properly authorize occupants and guests. Each authorized person who has access to a premise should have the unique password. The password should be a word that is easy for the individual to remember.

Why can’t I use the phone when my alarm system goes off?
When an alarm occurs at your premise, the digital dialer in your alarm system uses your phone line to communicate with the monitoring station. While the system is communicating your phone line will be unavailable. This is a very quick transaction so you will not be inconvenienced for long. If you are on the phone at the time an alarm is triggered, the alarm system has priority over your call, so your connection will be terminated immediately.

What happens if the power goes off?
In most cases, it is not necessary to advise the ADT monitoring center the instant there is a loss of A/C power at your premise. Your alarm system will continue to operate under battery power. If the power is off for an extended period of time and your battery becomes low, a low battery signal will be sent to the monitoring station and an operator will alert you to the fact that your system may not function if the battery runs out. A/C failures only need to be programmed if a customer has high value perishable goods or inventory and wants to be notified any time, night or day that the power is off.

What do I do if my alarm goes off in the middle of the night?
If your alarm sounds at night while you are sleeping do not react by turning off your alarm system. By turning off your alarm system you may send a Cancel Code to the monitoring station and ADT will automatically assume the alarm is false. Before entering your Cancel Code, cautiously determine what caused the alarm.

What do I do if I come home and find a broken window or door?
If you come home to this situation, do not enter the premise. The perpetrator may still be inside. Use a neighbor’s phone or a cellular phone to call the ADT Monitoring Station for information. If there has been a break-in and the police have not arrived yet, do not touch anything until the police have inspected for evidence.

What do I do if my system needs service?
Your monitored alarm communicates daily with the monitoring center which checks all levels of operation and even the battery of the alarm system. Your alarm system will notify the monitoring center of any errors or concerns that may occur. The monitoring center will notify you of the situation and of any part of your system that is not fuctioning correctly. If you require service, please call Maxi Security on 0800 629 469 and we will be happy to assist you.

Emergency Call List Update

One way you can contribute to securing your home or business and reducing false dispatches is by keeping your call list up-to-date. New users must be given proper instructions on how to use the system and all names and passwords must be communicated to ADT Monitoring Center.

If there is a change in your call list, please let us know as soon as possible by contacting ADT contact center on 0800 111 238(0800 111 ADT). This will ensure that we contact the appropriate individual if/when required.

Moving
The key to a successful and relatively stress-free move is to be prepared. Along with cancelling or disconnecting services at your present home, you have to arrange for new services at your new destination.
One way Maxi Security can alleviate some of this stress is by assisting you with your security system. Whether you are moving within your local area or somewhere in else, we can assist you with your security requirements at your new location.

Vacation Notification
If you are planning a vacation, it would be beneficial, for emergency purposes, to advise the ADT monitoring center of the dates you will be away. Also, please ensure that any people who have access to your home in your absence are on your Call List and have passwords and disarming codes. If you are planning a trip, please let us know by contacting ADT on 0800 111 238 (0800 111 ADT).

Service & Upgrades Required
Maxi Security mostly only service security systems that have been installed by us. Although, if your system needs an upgrade or needs to be connected to the ADT monitoring center, we will gladly assist. If you require any of these services, please contact us on 0800 629 469.

Interested In A Security System For Your Home or Business?
If you would like a Maxi Security Alarm Professional from your local community to visit your home or business and provide you with a quote, please send us an email to the address listed below. We will have someone contact you as soon as possible. If you prefer to contact us by telephone, call us Toll Free on 0800 629 469.

Your home is the only environment where you have control over who can get close to your or your family.

Protecting your home and family from criminal intrusion should be high on your list of priorities. Without a doubt, the most common threat to your home is burglary. The majority of home burglaries occur during the daytime when most people are away from home.

They also occur at night when there are obvious signs that no one is home. Statistics tell us that most of all home burglars gain access through a door. Use the following home security tips to keep you and your family safe.

DOORS AND LOCKS

Always lock your doors and windows.

Locks on doors should be placed at least 1 meter away from windows, glass panels and other openings.

Place a metal bar or thick wooden stick the length of the panel in the track of each sliding door.

Use a solid core (44mm thick) or metal door for all entrance points.

Use a quality, heavy-duty, deadbolt lock with a one-inch throw bolt.

Check door hinges to make sure they are sturdy and secure with strong, long screws.

Display ADT Security signs and stickers in a visible location on all doors.

WINDOWS

Make sure valuables are where they cannot be seen from a window.

Secure all accessible windows with secondary blocking devices.

Block accessible windows open no more than 150mm for ventilation.

Consider fitting security grilles to vulnerable windows.

Display ADT Security signs and stickers in visible locations on all accessible windows.

LIGHTING

Use timer switches to turn on lights, radios and other appliances when you’re away from home.

Make sure exterior lighting allows 30 meter visibility.

Use good lighting along the pathway and at your door.

Consider infrared motion sensors on the exterior porch or side door.

ALARMS

Have a Maxi Security Alarm system installed that suits your budget and needs.

Make sure your home or business is monitored by a professional monitoring center.

All systems need to have an audible siren to be effective.

An external blue strobe siren is a good indication that a security alarms is installed.

Keep your alarm emergency call list up to date.

Make sure all key holders know how to respond to an alarm call.

Don’t display your PIN-pass code near the alarm panel.

OTHER TIPS

Trim the bushes and trees close to your home to make it difficult for a burglar to hide.

Store any ladders and tools in a locked tool shed, garage or basement.

Do not display your family’s name on mailboxes or doormats.

Do an inventory of all the belongings inside your home. Make a video take of your belongings and store a copy in a safe place – outside your home.

Make sure your house number is easily visible from the street so emergency vehicles can quickly find your house.
